Constanza is a single mother in her thirties who has just moved from Messina to Verona with her six-year-old daughter Flora to work as a paleopathologist. Verona, however, is also the city of Marco, Flora's father… who has never known he has a daughter.
The relationship between Constanza and Marco was intense but very brief, broken by the discovery that he was engaged. But now the moment of revelation has arrived, and things are very complicated: Marco is about to get married, while Constanza has met the charming linguist Ludovico at work, with whom a strong attraction immediately sparked.
Constanza must find a difficult balance between her private life and a demanding and unusual job, where colleagues can also be fierce rivals. Her assignment, on which her professional future will also depend, is to discover the identity of a woman whose remains were found in the excavation of a medieval cemetery. This woman could be the illegitimate daughter of Frederick II of Swabia, and she has red hair, just like Constanza's.
