Inspired by the true story of the trio Bethnal Green, three teenage London girls who met jihad recruiters at their high school in February 2015, the series follows Fatima, a Swedish Security Service agent, Pervin, a young Swedish woman lured into Syria, and Sulle, a rebellious teenager attracted to the Islamic State. Caliphate addresses issues such as Islamic extremism, terrorism, tensions within Islam, and women's rights.
